  • Elected a School Trustee, SD 23, British Columbia for two terms (1993-96 & 1999 – 2001). Elected Chair of the School Board during the 3rd year of each term. Budget: $150 million.
  • Appointed, Chair Okanagan Similkameen Regional Health Board for three years (1997 -2000). Budget: $300 million.
  • Elected, Director, Health Employers Association of BC (1997 – 2000) & Appointed, Member Healthcare Benefit Trust Board (1998 – 2003)
  • Elected, Director of Interior Savings Credit Union (Assets at the time: $500 million) for three, 3-year terms; Chair of Audit Committee for six years.

  • Monitored, at own expense, 3H – 98 Amreli project by visiting the project once a year for the past seven years; made regular reports to the RI and participating Kelowna Area Rotary Clubs and to the 2003 District Conference.
  • Conducted a guided tour for over a dozen Rotarians/family/friends to visit the Amreli project and tour India.
  • Rotary Awards: Kelowna Rotary Club Rotarian of the Year (1996-97)

Other Relevant Experience:

  • Chaired many External Evaluation Teams in BC. Wrote/Edited numerous comprehensive reports on the ‘state of education’ in a school.
  • As a member of BC Provincial Education Ministry’s Enrolment Audit Team for several years, I have become accustomed to reviewing programs of various kinds and writing reports to describe these programs, identify their strengths and recommend changes where needed.
  • I have some useful experience in ‘Conflict resolution’ consulting. The role of the consultant is to identify issues that cause the conflict and help the parties resolve the conflict.
  • My recent trip to China (See work experience above) was undertaken at the invitation of the Principal of Jiangdu School, an 8,000 student campus with a residential school component. During this trip I established good rapport with the school authorities although none spoke English! All communication was via an interpreter. I also helped begin a dialogue between the Mayors of Jiangdu and Kelowna for a future Twin City relationship.
  • The Gurukul School, Trivandrum, Kerala: Principal & Consultant: December 12, 2004 – March 31 2005. During the three months’ of consultation/administration, The Gurukul School’s reputation was enhanced as a viable alternate to the traditional school. The activities included addressing the business community, corporate officers, Rotary clubs, parents of the school, and staffing the school for 2005-06 school year as well as organizing it for the new school year.
